Oak Housing Association

Oak Housing Association

Oak Housing Limited was set up in July 2012 by Theori Investments Limited, one of the largest private sector providers of temporary accommodation in the country and are framework partners to over 20 Local Authorities in London and the South East.

It was set up to offer affordable housing options that go beyond the range of housing provided by Theori. Upon their inception we were commissioned to create a brand to encompass their stationery, handbooks and a new website.

The responsive website allows them to effectively communicate with their tenants and landlords, dealt with enquiries and respond to repair requests.

Paper sizes

Paper sizes

The industry standard for paper sizes in the UK and most of the world is called the A series. Of the developed countries only North America, Canada and parts of Mexico have chosen not to adopt this standard.

The smallest size in the scale is referred to as A10 with the largest being 4A0. You’ll notice from the diagram that the next size up is two of the current size placed together along the long edge. This makes it easier to remember the actual measurements too, as each size will contain one of the dimensions of the next size up or down. The majority of projects we work on would fall within the range of A6 for items like postcards to A1 for posters and folders.

Business cards
Prior to the introduction of the credit card to the UK in 1966, business cards were produced in a variety of sizes. Since then the 85mm x 55mm dimension of the credit card has become the unofficial standard for business cards, especially as all wallets and purses are now produced to accommodate this size.

Compliment slips
Often produced in A6, the compliment slip is more commonly printed to the DL (Dimension Lengthwise) size. The DL size was originally defined for envelopes to hold an A4 letterhead folded into three equal panels. The DL sheet size is 99mm x 210mm.

Newspapers
You only have to browse the shelves of your local newsagent to realise the variety of sizes that newspaper are produce in, with the most common being broadsheet and tabloid. Broadsheet is 600 x 750 mm and Tabloid is 280 x 430 mm.

Large format posters

Proud of You Campaign

Proud of You Campaign

The standard of education in the borough of Waltham Forest had once again improved and we were asked to create an awareness campaign to highlight the council’s commitment to support and invest in schools to continually improve them.

A group of students with particular success stories were chosen to lead the campaign. They were photographed and placed within the word ‘proud’ to portray the council’s support playing an integral part of the increased success.

A second phase of the campaign was developed from teachers perspectives telling their success stories from the classroom.

Rubicon

When designing a folder for Rubicon Estates the key requirements were to show they are based in Limehouse, it had to be a little unusual and have something of a wow factor.

We briefed a photographer to take lots of images of local interest which we ran across the front and back cover so anyone who knew Limehouse would instantly be familiar. The corner of the cover was die cut to reflect their logo and be a little unusual and the wow factor came from a photograph of Limehouse basin which was taken in three sections, stitched together and printed across the whole inside of the folder to make one stunning panoramic.

Franklyn James Estate Agents approached us wanting to improve how properties were presented to their clients and to create awareness of the company’s three offices and the services they provide.

We designed a bespoke presenter which had to be of a suitable style and quality to promote the multi-million pound properties which they market. Overlaying a cover of their corporate green with a monotone image from within their docklands office, adding a metallic silver fifth colour, gloss lamination to both sides and a magnetic locking system all complete the desired look and feel of this sophisticated and eye catching document presenter.

Gable Hall Goes Digital

Gable Hall School specialises in the performing arts without detracting from all other academic fields and this was prominent in our mind when we were asked to design their prospectus

They wanted the prospectus to be viewed predominantly online so we created a page turner for them which could be embedded into their current website. The 3D page turning effect creates a real wow factor and with the functionality to print, download, share and enlarge to full screen as some of it’s extra features this is a very effective method to engage and get a message across. Take a look at the Gable Hall School page turner here

London in Black and White

We were pleased to be asked by Tower Bridge Exhibition to design and produce their London in Black & White exhibit which was displayed in the West Walkway of the bridge.

The images were supplied by the London Metropolitan Archives and offered visitors the chance to step back in time as far back as the late 1800s and immerse themselves in the rich seam of history that surrounds Tower Bridge, the Pool of London and the surrounding areas. The exhibition of 32 panels gave accounts on boats, buildings, life, waterways and Tower Bridge.

Library Plus

Waltham Forest wanted to promote the major transformation of the four key libraries in the borough to multimedia centres and encourage more residents to use these new facilities.

We created a completely new brand reflecting the modernisation which encompassed logo development, font usage, a colour palette and graphic approach. This work was carried forward to produce publicity materials and explore signage options for way finding and zoning. The new look and feel was a key aspect to how the council communicates to residents the improved variety of services and facilities the libraries now offers and urge them to look again.

Showing off to the trade

We have worked with Locata Housing Service for a number of years and first created their brand over ten years ago.

Since then Locata has grown into the largest provider of housing options in England working with 78 local authorities and over 200 housing bodies.

Whilst still fulfilling their original business of choice based lettings systems, their services have expanded greatly to include a whole suite of web-based products that provide the backbone for the housing options services their clients deliver.

To coincide with an upcoming trade show, Locata wanted to review their logo and create a new suite of marketing materials.

The logo needed to reflect their online expansion and include a sub-brand for their popular Exchange Locata service. This was rolled-out to stationery, a set of brochures with slip case, exhibition panels, roller-banners and advertising.

Thompson & Bryan

Disaster recovery specialist Thompson & Bryan approached us wanting to redesign their website.

Thompson & Bryan has an amazing trading history dating back to 1867 but felt their website wasn’t aging as well, so they asked us to bring it up to date. Their key requirements were to ensure the site informs when they were established, to make people want to read what can be a dull subject and finally, appear visually different from their competitors.

The new responsive website we created is very image led with the information broken down into sections to make it interesting and easier to absorb. With a unique menu system and the fixed full width background images creating an intriguing reveal effect as you scroll down the page, Thompson & Bryan’s brand is now firmly in the 21st century.
